A corporate site rebuild and over 50 property websites in this multisite rebuild.
UI/UX
On this project I inherited an older Gatsby website that had the business’ corporate website and apartment property websites. The property websites were one page brochures essentially that were on the main corporate site’s domain. As the sole developer my task was to create a new Wordpress multisite to house both the corporate and property websites while giving the properties their own domains, increasing them from one page to 15+ pages (a real website) and to do all of this where they share the same template but inherit their own property logos, pictures, colors and content. Below are some of the early wireframes I created and worked with the stakeholders until we all agreed on the direction.
Design
I had guidelines to follow based on the property styles but created a majority of the design for the extra 15+ pages that were added to each of the 50+ property websites.
Development
This project is probably one of the most difficult in terms of development I have ever done. AI helped greatly even though it was in it’s infancy. I was creating straight PHP functions for all the custom features we wanted on the sites. Below are some of the technologies I created on this project. The project from start to finish lasted about 6 months and greatly increased the traffic to the entire portfolio.
- Switched hosting to a custom configured box on Kinsta. I specified the hardware and closely monitored performance.
- Created multiple schedule an appointment forms using Funnel and RentCafe APIs.
- Created custom floorplan configurators written completely in PHP, jquery and css.
- Reorganized all property site content into multiple pages.
- Bought and set up each property site with it’s own domain through cloudflare and the multisite configuration.
- Developed all header, footer and page templates in Divi builder so other members of the team could edit the websites.
- Created blog section utilizing AI to write articles for different properties.
- Utilized ACF to populate content throughout the property sites.
- Wrote a XML feed that was generated from a PHP function that gathered all the pricing and apartment information and fed it to Apartments.com, Zillow and Rent.com to populate relevant information on those sites.
- Created advanced contact forms utilizing UTMs for tracking and robust custom spam protection systems.
- Created custom map finder for activities around the apartment properties.
- Built testimonials page that pulls Google reviews in.
